FIND: El Rancho Rio Khoury's $25

Here is a pic i found in my Ebay file.  96 of the Khoury's El Rancho Rio $25 black chip on the H mold.  These were R10 in C&W. Ebay auction was dated 6-29-13.

Here's a posted comment from David Spragg on these chips on the Chip Board on 6-3-15:

"Here is an example though where your info could mislead without clarification.
I purchased the El Rancho Khoury's chips. What the picture doesn't show you is that there is virtually no hotstamp on the 75 chips still in the box. Also, a couple of the ones shown are in poor condition. 78 of the chips were donated to Nevada Historical Society. One chip was broken in pieces in the original transit. Only 17 chips survive.
Without that info anyone would think all 96 are in 'circulation'. That has a negative impact on chip values which ultimately flows through to all chips. Disclosing finds etc. without caveats can cause damage to the hobby, not the opposite."

Pic from the Chip Guide.  $25 hot stamp is on the Back.

FIND: Thunderbird $1 ncv

I also found this in my old ebay pics.  There was an ebay auction back in 11-17-13 for 180 of these Thunderbird $5 no cash value chips.  These were R9 in C&W.  Too bad I bought mine a few years earlier!

here is a pic from that auction:

This is what the chip looks like (from the Chip Guilde):

FIND: San Souci Card Room Chips 25c 50c $1

This was an old one I guess i should list.  As found and reported by Doug Smith on 1-8-14 on the chip board, the was a find of the Sans Souci Card Room chips $1- 98, 50c - 97, 25c 100.  The 50c and $1 chips were previously R10 in C&W.  I actually bought a set from Doug.  They were very nice!  I love the C&J mold and the hotstamp.

FIND: El Cortez $5 Las Vegas

There was a find of a box of El Cortez $5 small crown chips with the green insert.  I don't recall where this picture came from, but looks like there are many that have burn marks.

The first post I saw on this find was on the chipboard in 2013.

FIND: Sands $5 Las Vegas sm crown

There was an ebay sale that ended on 10-7-13 sold by Cocoabeanz01 for 6 drilled sands chip for $1914.  C&W had this chip listed as an R10 and TCR 15 has it at a Z4 chip.  See below for a pic from that auction.  The same seller has listed another drilled chip in an auction ending Feb 14, 2014.  By the pic on that auction, it doesn't seem like any of the chips below.  I don't recall seeing any posts on TCB on this chip.  Regardless, I would be worried about the how many chips the seller has/had in total.

here is the link to the ebay listing:

May 2011, David Pait reported on The Chip Board his find of 99 10c Boulder Club chips, "good in trade at keno or back" on the back.  C&W (4th) had the chips at a R6.  TCR 15 has the chip at  "J" and in faded condition a "D".

FIND: Black Orchid Chips

In June 2011, it was reported on the Chip Board by CT Rodgers of CT Coins that a "large group" of Black Orchid (Las Vegas) chips have been found.  He was offered at least a box (100) of each at the Long Beach coin show.  It wasn't specified what "each" of the denoms were.

Ratings per the C&W (4th) 50c R8, $1 R7, $5 R7, $25 R10.  I have seen a few  50c, $1 and $5 for sale on ebay, but not in huge quantity.  I have not seen the $25 for sale but I could have missed it.    TCR15 has the 50c as a W, $1 no market, $5 as  a Z1.  Not sure if they adjusted the price for these.  Proceed with caution.  Pics from the Chip Guide.

FIND: Flamingo Roulette Chips Las Vegas

Originally reported on The Chip Board for sale on 12-16-10 by Chris Guaiana, who was selling the Flamingo Roulette chips on the Circle mold.  The TCB archive shows the post was deleted, but luckily i kept a copy (see below).  Post reports that there are #3 Lavendar x 63, #3 Lime Green x 67, #2 Orange x 69.   C&W listed #2 orange as previously Unique and other 2 were not listed. In TCR#12, all 3 chips were marked down to a "N" value code.  They are beauty's!

FIND 12-2009 Tropicana Hot Stamp chips

There have been a lot of Tropicana hot stamp chips that have been out on ebay for a little while. There are regular denominations on a H&C mold and a Non Cash Value (NCV) on the Tropicana house mold.

The regular denominations ($5, $25, $100) are all listed as R-3's in C&W. In TCR, there is a notation that there were 50 full boxes were found. That is a total of 5,000 chips. R-3 is "fairly common" with 350-750 chips known. I would say that these are more likely R-2 (751-2000) per denom.

The NCV chips are listed as follows:

1) $5 NCV, Orange, Hot Stamp, House Mold, 3 green inserts
TCR Notes: N2267 value H ($30-39)
C&W Notes: R-8, $30-$80

As you can see by the below auction, there are at least 180 chips for sale, which make these at least a R-5 C&W rarity rating.

2) $25 NCV, Grey, Hot Stamp, House Mold, 3 navy inserts
TCR Notes: E2897, value F ($20-24)
C&W Notes: R-7, $12-$24

As you can see by the below auction, there are at least 100 chips for sale, which make these a R-5 C&W rarity rating.

3) $100 NCV, Fuchsia, Hot Stamp, House Mold, 3 white inserts
TCR Notes: E-5121, Value I ($40-49)
C&W Notes: These are not even listed in the C&W guide.

As you can see by the below auction, there are at least 120 chips for sale, which make these a R-4 C&W rarity rating.

Tropicana Hot Stamp lots sold on ebay:

1) 178 of the $5, $25 and $100 chips sold for $760 on 8/03/08:

2) 400 ($5x 120, $25x 100, $100x 180) of the NCV chips sold for ___ on 12/7/09.

3) 300 ($5 x 100, $25 x 200) denom hot stamps sold for $769 on 12/9/09.

I am not sure what the actual value of these hot stamp chips are, but I wouldn't pay "book value" at all for them. I saw about a dozen of $5 denom and $25 NCV chips in Bud Meyer's $1 box at Casinorama in San Marino a few months back.

What the real quantities of the NCV chips? Not sure, just excercise caution when buying these.
